For years, the city of Zurich has been taking concrete measures to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. It was the first Swiss city to commit itself to the goal of a 2000-watt society. However, much remains to be done. Martina Blum and Daniel Gerber show how the city of Zurich intends to achieve its climate goals and what a sustainable Zurich of the future could look like.

Monday 24th
At the start of the Summer School in Bern, the participants met up and got to know each other a little better. After the kick-off there was a speed dating-event so the participants could find groups in which they would elaborate a project together. The participants quickly found each other and were able to start working on their projects in the afternoon.

Tuesday 25th
Environmental Report
The second morning was spent listening to an interesting input by Karin Fink about the environmental report BAFU. After the input the groups were able to further work on their projects and get individual mentorings by Yvonne and Benjamin, who also enquired about the ressources the groups will need to develop their projects.

3000 Peaks
On the third day of the Summer School, the groups were slowly starting to finalise their project ideas and implementations. After some individual work time, the project “3000 Peaks” gave an imput in the afternoon. After further work on their projects, the participants had to say goodbye to Bern and transitioned into the next chapter of the Summer School in Zürich.

After touring through the location, the group attended the public lunch event “Zürich 2050 Futureproof”. The rest of the day, the participants were encouraged to continue working on their projects and enjoy the warm city summer day.
