ZÜRICH 2050 – FUTUREPROOF
Thursday August 27th, 11–13h, Frau Gerolds Garten

For years, the city of Zurich has been taking concrete measures to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. It was the first Swiss city to commit itself to the goal of a 2000-watt society. However, much remains to be done. Martina Blum and Daniel Gerber show how the city of Zurich intends to achieve its climate goals and what a sustainable Zurich of the future could look like.
ROUNDTABLE: HEAT METHOD
Friday August 28th, 11–13h, Zentralwäscherei

The roundtable provides an opportunity to engage with and discuss issues around climate change in an informal setting. David Christie will present the HEAT method, developed to help individuals start their own personal climate action plan.

The roundtable provides an opportunity to engage with and discuss issues around climate change in an informal setting. Annina Boogen will present multi perspective and aesthetic approaches on the perception of energy infrastructure in (alpine) landscapes.

At the end of the week, we share our transdisciplinary projects on climate change with the audience at Frau Gerold’s through artistic interventions







Monday 24th  

Kick-Off


At the start of the Summer School in Bern, the participants met up and got to know each other a little better. After the kick-off there was a speed dating-event so the participants could find groups in which they would elaborate a project together. The participants quickly found each other and were able to start working on their projects in the afternoon.


Tuesday 25th 

Environmental Report 


The second morning was spent listening to an interesting input by Karin Fink about the environmental report BAFU. After the input the groups were able to further work on their projects and get individual mentorings by Yvonne and Benjamin, who also enquired about the ressources the groups will need to develop their projects.

Wednesday 26th 

3000 Peaks


On the third day of the Summer School, the groups were slowly starting to finalise their project ideas and implementations. After some individual work time, the project “3000 Peaks” gave an imput in the afternoon. After further work on their projects, the participants had to say goodbye to Bern and transitioned into the next chapter of the Summer School in Zürich.

Thursday 27th

Zürich 2050 Futureproof


Arriving in Zürich, the participants made themselves with the future playground for their projects: Frau Gerolds Garten. After touring through the location, the group attended the public lunch event “Zürich 2050 Futureproof”. The rest of the day, the participants were encouraged to continue working on their projects and enjoy the warm city summer day.

Friday 28th

HEAT Method


Friday morning started out contemplative with a general reflection round on the week and the projects so far. After the lively discussion David Christie showed his strategic design approach, involving research into the psychological and cognitive mechanisms behind denial: the HEAT Method (in short: Hope, Evaluate, Act, Tell). After the input the participants tried to evaluate different aspects of personal and political values concering climate change.


Friday 28th

Panel Discussion


In the Zentralwäscherei the Summer School held a panel discussion with guest speakers. The podium raised questions of language, responsibility, and participation in the cotext of “Climate and the City” . The three guest panelists were Roland Fischer (Science writer / Curator / Tech catalyst, Kaspar König (Artist / Sound designer / Researcher), Anaïs Tilquin (Evolutionary biologist / Ecologist rebelling against extinction)


Saturday 29th

Operation Beton &
Interventions


After finishing all of their projects, the participants held a final reflective discussion on the week. 
Following this, the participants held a roundtable with Dr. Annina Boogen about her project “Operation Beton”, a multi-perspective and aesthetic approache on the perception of energy infrastructure in (alpine) landscapes.
