EcoArtLab - Relational Encounters I:
Images of the future

The Tollbox week started with three precious inputs and insights:
Severin Marty (ProClim) on climate communication and the project "Zukunftsbilder Netto Null".
Johanna Paschen on terminology and insights into her research work at the EcoArtLab.
Yvonne Schmidt with a brief immersion into artistic research.

During the rest of the week, the students from the various departments of the HKB and the Institute of Geography at the University of Bern formed working groups in which they developed interdisciplinary project ideas in order to work together. This resulted, for example, in a repair circle in which space and time were held to enable forms of community building and knowledge exchange, an interactive box with challenges that confronts participants with familiar or new topics and thus arouses curiosity and initiates activism on an individual level. Furthermore, a sketch of an interactive website was created, which on the one hand provides background knowledge on possible sustainability concepts. At the same time, the group translated quotes from a survey into sticker designs. Another group dealt with the resource of fertile soil and implemented it in an installation in which the usual hierarchies where art takes over the mediation of scientific research are interrupted and reversed.

The research project ‘EcoArtLab. Relational Encounters between the Arts and Climate Research’ is a project of the Institute Practices and Theories in the Arts (IPTK) at the Bern Academy of the Arts (HKB) in cooperation with the mLAB of the University of Bern, founded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
